COLibri community project
ABOUT Us
Why the Colibri?
On the day of our celebratory events, we will have our theater performances centered around a colibrí, a hummingbird, so why did we choose this bird as our symbol?
The colibrí is historically significant in many Latin American cultures. For example, to the Aztecs, colibrís were believed to be reincarnated warriors who died in battle. They also have a deity named, Huitzilopochtli, the god of Sun and War whose name roughly translates to “Hummingbird’s Left” or “Hummingbird on the Left”.
While this is our first year organizing this project, we aspire to continue and expand our project and events. This is similar to a colibrí since they migrate so we aspire to do the same. We hope to be able to expand our future programs to various cities and to reach numerous communities within and around San Luis Obispo, much like how a colibrí travels, bringing vibrance to the environment around us.
